For over twenty years, Jeannine wanted to take youth at risk on volunteer – educational trips. In 2012, she founded a non-profit volunteer – travel program called, Opening the World (OTW), which is fiscally sponsored by Bay Area Community Resources. OTW is dedicated to providing young adults at risk a new perspective on life through travel, local and global social service projects and community building and bonding activities. In February of 2014, Jeannine was fortunate to be one of 50 and since 2001, 201 people worldwide, to receive the Unsung Heroes of Compassion award and blessing from His Holiness, the Dalai Lama for her work with OTW.
